Physiotherapy is a primary care, autonomous, client-focused health profession dedicated to improving quality of life by:

Promoting full body mobility and stability.
Rehabilitating injury with both passive and active treatment modalities.
Increasing physical activity and overall health and wellness.
Preventing disease, injury, and disability.
Managing acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions.
Improving and maintaining human performance
Educating and planning maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline.

Physiotherapy is anchored in movement sciences and aims to enhance or restore function of multiple body systems. The profession is committed to health, lifestyle and quality of life. This holistic approach incorporates a broad range of physical and physiological therapeutic interventions and aids.

Physiotherapy services are those that are performed by registered physiotherapists.

A Doctor’s referral is NOT required to directly access physiotherapy services.

Stephanie grew up in Fredericton, NB. She attended UNB and St FX for a BSc in Kinesiology and the went on to Dalhousie University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy in 2005. She has worked as a Physiotherapist in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia in a variety of fields such as Pelvic Health, Paediatrics, Geriatrics and Orthopaedics. Her love for the mountains, ocean and outdoors drew her, her husband and three boys to Port Alberni in October 2014. Stephanie is a conscientious and thorough Physiotherapist, with a special interest in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy (Women’s and Men’s Health Physiotherapy). Treatments include: Manual Therapy, Exercise Therapy, Education, Acupuncture and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation. With extensive training, Stephanie has been treating issues such as incontinence, prolapse, pelvic/hip/low back pain since 2017.

Shannon Stofer has been a practicing physiotherapist for over 24 years, treating clients with orthopaedic and neurological conditions. She recently completed a Master’s degree with a focus in Performing Arts Medicine and holds an Associate Diploma with the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano. She hopes to use her skills to help dancers, musicians, gymnasts, figure skaters and other performers optimize their health and performance in the Alberni Valley and beyond. Deanna grew up in the Fraser Valley where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from SFU. She worked with individuals with workplace/sports injuries as well as neurological conditions with a special interest in chronic disease management and utilizing hydrotherapy. Deanna went on to complete her Masters of Physical Therapy at UBC. She has since worked in Pelvic Health physiotherapy (Women’s and Men’s Health) orthopaedics, community care, and rural/remote care.

Deanna believes in empowering her clients and allowing them to be leaders in their own health and wellness journey. She is passionate about functional integration of exercise and manual therapy. Deanna has completed post graduate training in Pelvic Health and welcomes clients of any gender.

Outside of work, Deanna is spending time with her family outside - hiking, gardening, or learning new skills. She loves being a part of the community in Port Alberni and looks forward to serving it’s members for years to come.
